I developed a passion for family history research in 1995. I have documented proof of where and when all our bloodline ancestors arrived in Australia. My interest is with history rather than name gathering. I am descended from Port Phillip pioneers, Oxley Pioneers, Aviation Pioneers and from 4 convicts the first arriving on the third fleet in 1791. My multi great grandmother was born at the 5 mile yard on John Blaxland’s farm, in NSW. Our children are 8th generation Australian born.
My grandparents, the most recent arrivals, sailed to Australia, in 1914, with the Australia’s first military aeroplanes, they lived in tents at Point Cook and helped form Australia’s first military flying school, which eventually became the RAAF. My grandfather flew with Ray Parer in New Guinea; they pioneered the first inland flight across New Guinea. I wrote a publication depicting the birth of aviation in the UK and Australia and my grandfather’s progress from carpenter to aeroplane mechanic. The RAAF accepted my book into their Heritage Collection.
